Pyxis is Bain’s competitive intelligence division. Pyxis leverages the broadest and most granular consumer datasets available in the market to generate unrivalled competitive intelligence to our clients. Pyxis has seen tremendous growth since being acquired by Bain in 2019 (~9x revenue growth from 2019-2022) and is looking to continue its impressive growth.


WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Senior Manager, Pyxis Analytics will report to the Director, Pyxis Analytics and be primarily responsible for developing and executing Casework Insight’s Engine 1 and Engine 2 lines of business. 


The Senior Manager will also assist in growing Pyxis’s internal and external penetration with a focus on US CP&R Bain Partners that are not yet frequent Pyxis users, and international CP&R casework. In addition, the Senior Manager will be responsible for day-to-day management of casework insights projects and Datafeeds. 


This includes project scoping with both Bain teams and PE firms / D2C clients, as well as ongoing client engagement with Datafeed customers. The Senior Manager will be responsible for 2 to 5 direct reports, with opportunities for future team growth. 


Casework (Engine 1) (45%)

  • Work with Bain LT and case teams and clients to understand their analytical and data needs
  • Define a long-term strategy of how Pyxis’s 50+ datasets can be creatively leveraged to answer complex requests
  • Design workplan for bespoke projects, including staffing model and workplan for complex client engagements, sometimes under tight business deadlines
  • Ensure consistent quality of work, providing guidance on outputs and approach as needed, and lead client engagement throughout the delivery process
  • Present analytical findings as appropriate, and work directly with case team to provide ongoing data or analytical support


Datafeeds + Direct To Client (Engine 2) (30%)

  • Lead our growing Engine 2 LOB on D2C Datafeeds (mainly PE firms and current / former Bain clients) from initial scoping to supervising ongoing refreshes throughout subscription period
  • Serve as the Pyxis point of contact for clients, holding routine check-ins with key stakeholders (normally VP-level or above)
  • Coordinate with engineering to automate data intake, enrichment, and analytics to ensure on-time and accurate delivery of Datafeeds and custom analytics projects
  • Coordinate with data structuring to improve data fidelity and provide inputs to further tagging efforts
  • Proactively find ways to convert one-time custom analytics projects into recurring Datafeeds


People Management (15%)

  • Manage a team of 2 to 5 people (dependent on experience / tenure) responsible for casework insights delivery and Datafeeds, including training, professional development, mentoring, coaching and integration into and to the standards of Bain & Company
  • Lead daily team standups to review progress and clarify daily priorities
  • Develop and nurture Pyxis culture that helps drive retention, loyalty, and job satisfaction


Growth (10%)

  • Manage proactive outreach to Bain partners to increase Pyxis’s penetration in CD, PEG, and GP efforts
  • Coordinate with Pyxis’s commercial and marketing leads to grow Pyxis’s D2C advanced analytics and fit within Pyxis’s overall strategy
  • Develop a long-term strategy to identify new opportunities to leverage OpenAI in Pyxis’s offerings, and work with AAG to bring those ideas into reality
  • Maintain Pyxis sales collateral and internal documentation for Bain teams on Pyxis’s evolving capabilities and dataset coverage
  • Manage collaboration with FRWD, Practice Areas, PEGAR, AAG, RDS, and other stakeholders and identify new opportunities for partnerships and development


ABOUT YOU

  • MBA or other Master’s level business or entrepreneurial degree
  • 6+ years of direct relevant experience 
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to manage 2-5 data scientists for casework goals
  • Ability to work independently and juggle priorities to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Outstanding interpersonal, written / verbal communication, and client-facing skills
  • Some familiarity with SQL / Python / other coding languages to be able to provide actionable feedback on quantitative projects with team
  • High levels of attention to detail, entrepreneurialism, and enthusiasm
